Detailed Solutions
Step 1: Verify Physical Connections
- Ensure the monitor power cable is firmly plugged in.
- Confirm the monitor shows a power indicator.
- Check that the video cable (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB‑C, VGA) is secure at both ends.
- Disconnect and reconnect the video cable.
- Try a different video port on the computer.
Step 2: Confirm Input Source
- Locate the Input or Source button on the monitor.
- Press it to cycle through available inputs.
- Select the input that matches the cable you are using (e.g., HDMI 1, HDMI 2, DisplayPort).
Step 3: Wake the Display
- Press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse.
- Briefly press the monitor’s power button.
- If the PC is asleep or hibernating, press the power button on the PC or use
Win+Ctrl+Shift+Bto reset the graphics driver.
Step 4: Check Windows Display Settings
- Press Win + P and choose the desired mode (PC screen only, Duplicate, Extend, or Second screen only).
- Open Settings > System > Display and click the Detect button.
- In Windows 11, the path is Settings > Windows Update for driver updates – see How to update Windows.
Step 5: Review Power‑saving and Fast Startup Settings
- Open Settings > System > Power & battery and ensure the monitor is not set to turn off immediately.
- Disable “Fast startup”: open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable > uncheck “Turn on fast startup”.
- Check that sleep or hibernate is not preventing the display from waking; adjust the timers as needed.
Step 6: Use an Alternate Video Port or Adapter
- Identify all video ports on the PC (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB‑C, VGA).
- Connect the monitor to a different port.
- If required, use a compatible cable or adapter.
Step 7: Test with Another Monitor or Cable
- Connect a known‑good monitor to the same PC.
- Or connect the original monitor to another computer.
- Swap the video cable with a verified working cable.
Step 8: Graphics Driver Troubleshooting
For systems with both integrated and discrete graphics, verify that the correct output is enabled in the BIOS/UEFI.
- Open Settings > Windows Update and check for driver updates, or follow How to update Windows for driver updates.
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right‑click the graphics device and choose Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
- If roll‑back is not possible, select Uninstall device, then reinstall the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website or using the vendor’s utility. See Graphics driver troubleshooting for detailed guidance.
Step 9: Reset the Monitor via On‑Screen Display (OSD)
- Press the monitor’s OSD/menu button.
- Navigate to Settings or Factory Reset (the wording varies by model).
- Select Reset and confirm. The monitor will revert to default settings.
Step 10: Wireless Display (Miracast) and HDMI‑CEC Issues
- Ensure the PC’s wireless display feature is enabled: Settings > System > Display > Connect to a wireless display.
- On the monitor or TV, enable “Screen Mirroring” or “Miracast”.
- If using a projector, verify the projector’s wireless input mode is active.
- For HDMI‑CEC problems, open the monitor/TV’s settings and disable “HDMI‑CEC” (or enable it if you need the PC to control power/volume).
- Restart both devices after changing HDMI‑CEC settings.
Step 11: Restart the PC
Most display issues are resolved by a normal restart.
- Use the Start menu to Restart.
- If the problem persists, hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force a shutdown, wait 30 seconds, then power on again.
