Solutions
Step 1: Check the Meeting App's Permissions
For Microsoft Teams:
1. During a call, look for the camera/mic icons in the toolbar
2. If crossed out, click to enable them
3. If prompted, click "Allow" to grant camera/mic access
Check System-Level Permissions:
1. Press Win + I → "Privacy & security" → "Camera" (or "Microphone")
2. Ensure "Camera access" is ON
3. Under "Allow apps to access your camera," find Teams/Zoom and enable it
Step 2: Select the Correct Camera and Microphone
In Microsoft Teams:
1. Click your profile → "Settings" → "Devices"
2. Under "Camera," select your preferred camera
3. Under "Microphone," select your preferred mic
4. Check "Automatically select" if available
5. Test by clicking "Make a test call" (Teams)
In Zoom:
1. Click your profile picture → "Settings"
2. Go to "Video" → select camera
3. Go to "Audio" → select microphone
4. Test with "Test Speaker/Microphone"
Step 3: Check Hardware Connections
For External Webcam/USB Mic:
1. Unplug and replug the device
2. Try a different USB port (preferably on the back of the computer)
3. Ensure the device is powered on
For Built-in Laptop Camera/Mic:
1. Check if there's a physical privacy shutter — open it!
2. Ensure no stickers or covers are blocking the camera
For Meeting Room Equipment:
1. Check the TV/input is correct (see "Meeting Room Equipment" KB)
2. Ensure the room system is powered on
Step 4: Restart the Application
1. Close the meeting app completely
2. Reopen and join the meeting
3. Try again
Step 5: Restart Your Computer
1. Save any work
2. Press Win + I → "Power" → "Restart"
3. After restart, try the meeting again
Step 6: Update Camera/Microphone Drivers
1. Press Win + X → "Device Manager"
2. Expand "Cameras" or "Audio inputs and outputs"
3. Right-click your device → "Update driver"
4. Search automatically for updated driver software
5. Restart if updated
Step 7: Check Other Apps Using the Camera
- Close other apps that might be using the camera (e.g., other video apps, webcam software)
- Only one app can use the camera at a time
Step 8: Check Company-Provided Headsets
If using a company-issued headset:
1. Check it's properly plugged in

3. Test on another computer to verify it works
4. Check volume is not muted on the headset
