Method 1: Settings App (Recommended)

1. Press Win + I to open Settings

2. Click Windows Update on the left

3. Click Check for updates

4. Wait for Windows to search

Method 2: Windows Update Button

1. Press Win + W to open Windows Search

2. Type "Check for updates"

3. Click "Check for updates" in results

What to Do When Updates Are Available

If Updates Are Found:

1. Click Download (if prompted)

2. Wait for download to complete

3. Click Install now or Restart now

4. Your PC will restart to install

If No Updates Available:

Managing Updates

Pause Updates (temporarily)

1. In Windows Update settings

2. Click "Pause updates"

3. Choose how long to pause (up to 5 weeks)

View Update History

1. Windows Update settings

2. Click Update history

3. See what was installed and when

Reset Windows Update

If updates aren't working:

1. Press Win + R

2. Type cmd, right-click > Run as administrator

3. Type: net stop wuauserv

4. Press Enter

5. Type: net start wuauserv

6. Try checking for updates again
