Solutions
Step 1: Verify You're Connected to the VPN
1. If working remotely, ensure your VPN is connected
2. The VPN must be active to access company network resources
Step 2: Check Mapped Drive Status
1. Open File Explorer (Win + E)
2. Look at the left sidebar — are your mapped drives visible?
3. If a drive shows a red X, it's disconnected
4. Right-click the drive and select "Disconnect" — then try reconnecting
Step 3: Reconnect the Mapped Drive
1. Press Win + R, type explorer, press Enter
2. In the address bar, type the network path (e.g., \\servername\sharename)
3. Press Enter — if prompted, enter your domain credentials
4. To map permanently: Right-click "This PC" → "Map network drive" → Select drive letter → Enter path → Check "Reconnect at sign-in"
Step 4: Run Network Troubleshooter
1. Press Win + I to open Settings
2. Go to "Network & Internet" → "Status"
3. Scroll down and click "Network troubleshooter"
4. Follow the on-screen instructions
Step 5: Clear DNS Cache
1. Press Win + R, type cmd, press Enter
2. In Command Prompt, type: ipconfig /flushdns
3. Press Enter — you should see "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache"
4. Try accessing the network drive again
Step 6: Check Your Permissions
1. Contact your manager or IT to confirm you have access to the specific folder
2. You need appropriate permissions to view/edit files
Step 7: Verify the Server is Available
1. Press Win + R, type cmd, press Enter
2. Type ping servername (replace with actual server name)
3. If you get "Request timed out" or "Destination host unreachable," the server may be down
